Guy rocks fuckin’ MOONINITE bling:

The coolest Scientologist ever! The man made some very memorable music in the 70s, winning an Oscar for his theme to the movie Shaft and went on to act in his own awesome blaxploitation movie, Truck Turner! His first two albums, Hot Buttered Soul and Black Moses are both excellent records that anyone who has more than a passing interest in 70s soul and funk should own. He was awesome as the Duke of New York in John Carpenter’s Escape from New York. His version of “Walk on By” is one of the funkiest songs ever. The man accomplished a lot in his life.
Oh and he was on some poorly animated cartoon for a while. I think he played a chef.
Freak out to the trailer for Truck Turner:
And treat your ears to “Walk on By”:
The Decline of Western Civilization Continues:
One of my most favorite songs of my childhood is Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”:
Great pop lyrics by MJ, great production by Quincy Jones, not mention Mr. Eddie Van Halen on Guitar. This is from the golden days of when Michael Jackson was a talented, young, good looking black musician who everyone liked. Back then the dirty “rumor” about him was that… he might be gay. Man, I wish that was the truth.
Also, I dig the story of the video, why aren’t there interracial street gangs like this anymore? Last movie I saw that had them was Crocodile Dundee 2, I think.
Needless to say, I was disgusted to see Amy Winehouse’s “version” of Beat It:
What’s really funny is that this was made waaaaaaaaaaay before Back to Black broke big and she already was a fuckin’ mess, though I guess this was just booze, not crack. The look on Charlotte Church’s face is priceless though.
However, compared to this garbage by Fall Out Boy, Wino’s version is like Jimi Hendrix’s cover of “All Along the Watchtower”:
What’s sad is that i bet that there’s a ton of idiotic 13 year old kids out there that think this is an original song by Fall Out Boy, much like Alien Ant Farm’s “Smooth Criminal”.
This is yet another reason why I only listen to Ambient music these days.
Team Rowtow has been rockin’ a lot of stuff from UK’s hiphop scene for years due to our love of pirate radio: Grime, 2step, UK Garage, etc. but the most awesome style of music we’ve found in years has been Dubstep.
Sayeth thee wikipedia:
Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that has its roots in London’s early 2000s UK garage scene. The genre’s name was coined by Ammunition Promotions. Musically, dubstep is distinguished by its dark mood, sparse rhythms, and emphasis on bass.
If you want to snag some albums, we recommend:

Benga - Diary of an Afro Warrior
Or just chill out to the sounds of Dubstep.FM and DubTerrain.net, two excellent online dubstep radio stations.
Well, leave it to Cy to shit up Rowtow.com with fuckin’ Heidi Montag’s “music”.
Cleanse your palletes with this nice video Katy Perry performing “UR SO GAY” live at SXSW 2008:
Cy says this song is going to blow the fuck up. Let’s all pray to Alla that he’s wrong.
Wisely rules, you should peep this new video. It’s got Shane from Weeds in it and the song is pretty chill.
“One of the Boys” the first album by Katy Perry, featuring her smash hits “UR SO GAY” and “I Kissed a Girl”, drops this tuesday, June 17. I’m sure it’ll be on sale wherever records are sold, most likely Amazon or iTunes at the very least.
Pick it up! Katy needs all the support she can get for making quality pop music in this world of utter shit like Fallout Boy and Paramore.
Also, i dig that she rocks the Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
Being the avid Katy Perry fans that we are, check out this single - I Kissed a Girl. It’s hawt.
Peep Uffie’s info here. Peep her myspace here. Cool little interview:
If you don’t like her, fuck you.

A quick bio: “Kelsey Faludy, born in Colorado, has been playing the piano since the age of 4 and singing ever since she could speak. At 5 she began singing for her church, and started in community theater at 7. She worked with 4 different vocal coaches and in July of ‘03 she entered the Junior US Championships of the Performing Arts in L.A., competing in a wide spectrum of categories from musical theater to pop. She earned 1 bronze medal and 5 silver medals in singing, and a gold medal for acting.
Throughout the next few years sang at cancer benefits. Then, in 2004 she was cast in the film “Ichabod! The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”. The following summer she moved to Ohio. The move inspired her interest in music composition - she began writing her own songs, both the lyrics and accompaniment. In the summer of 2006 she began recording a few of her original songs at Ante Up Audio, a studio in downtown Cleveland. The EP is completed and individual songs will be available soon for download via www.kelseyfaludy.com.
Her most recent summer concerts were at the Winchester in Lakewood Ohio and the House of Blues in Cleveland. Kelsey is currently a freshman at the University of Dayton, where she is studying vocal performance and making every effot to keep a concert schedule.
In the meanwhile she’ll be back in studio to record one of her latest songs, the rock infused ‘Numb’.”
Pretty much the only pop music I follow anymore is weird novelty songs that have entertaining videos on youtube. “Soccer Practice” by Gay Pimp, “What What (in the Butt) by Samwell and “Thou Shalt Always Kill” by Scroobius Pip come immediately to mind. The latest of these is Katy Perry’s “UR SO GAY”. It’s got hilarious lyrics, decent music and Perry herself is pretty hot, so I’m making her BotD for today as well.
It sounds like she’s learned a hard lesson about dating emo boys: they’re so gay and they don’t even like boys.
This is The Boomtown Rats. You’ll probably recognize Robert Frederick Xenon Geldof, aka Bob Geldof. He’s the lead singer and he played the main character “Pink” in the movie The Wall. He has a good point - Monday sucks. Tori Amos also covered this track, thought that was cool.
Here at Team Rowtow, we’ve been consolidating our lists of the best albums of 2007.
I asked Golgo to make a list, and he told me: “I only bought 4 albums this year that were new, and two of them were by Feist and KMFDM, so you can see why my list is only a Top 2″
- Dave Gahan - Hourglass
- The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Bascule’s top discs of 2007 were slightly better:
- Chromeo - Fancy Footwork
- Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip
- Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Cy was even worse, his top 10 was a “I fucking hate new music, so I don’t have any albums that I liked this year. I’m gonna go listen to Loreena McKennit”. Alex was too busy being fucking homeless to listen to music, but he’d probably have picked some gayass shit by Dave Matthews or the Umphreys McGee.
Read after the jump for J-Roc’s Super List!
